What Is Sarcastic Optimism


Theory: sarcasm and optimism mixed together can get a point across while providing comfortable pessimistic laughter at times.. making the point more enjoyable.

Example

I think it is great that our business is in the industry of selling wrapping paper. If we were in the business of selling reusable cotton/cloth christmas bags, no one would ever come back to us to buy more each Christmas!

By selling wrapping paper, we get the best of both worlds. First, we make more money. Second, we pollute more since the wrapping paper has to be thrown out. It's really a win-win situation for our company.

Consequences

One of the problems with sarcastic optimism, is that some less intelligent people take the statement seriously and don't catch on to the sarcasm. These people actually see the optimism as fully valid and legitimate.. and the attempt at making a point fails. Eventually the majority should catch on to the sarcasm and correct those who didn't detect the sarcasm.
