DVD and CDROM players suck, suck, suck. And I've never fell for them and I've always hated them. The players are loud, clunky, ineffecient. Spinning a disc round and round trying to read through scratched and marked plastic sounds stupid. Why do you think windshields are made of GLASS and not PLASTIC? Making GLASS Cd-roms and Dvd's would be silly - because glass is too heavy - but compact flash/SD cards will come down in price and manufacturers will start making read only SD like or flash-like cards which people can buy movies and music CD's on.
Just recently I tried to convert some of my music CD's over to MP3 so that I didn't have to go and use Shareaza, Emule, Gnucleus, or Kazza. So I went ahead and converted about 5 of my CD's to MP3.. but only 4 songs out of about 50 ended up working properly. The scratches on the CD prevented the MP3 conversion from working properly. And I don't even use CD's often. I take good care of them. Even if you take good care of CD's, just inserting them into sleeves or putting them in plastic cases immediately scratches them.
Sorry to say, but CD's must be like a virgin with infinite hymen.
DVD's can store all your data and all your backups - great - but how reliable of a backup is a CD or DVD? Not very reliable at all. Scratches, and even a simple finger print can ruin your life! Imagine if somebody scratched your arm, and you died because of it! This is the CD/DVD flaw. This is not a flaw with compact flash, SD cards, or a hard drive! Because a hard drive and SD card and compact flash card doesn't have a bare naked surface that can be scratched and raped.
DVD's and CD's suck. Their plastic surface is bare naked and delicate. If one scratch can ruin my data - I think there is something wrong. That's like saying that if you fall on the pavement and get one scar as a child, you die. DVD's will be replaced when shit stops hitting the spinning ROM. DVD's will be replaced by mini hard drives that don't have a surface which can be raped, or a card that looks similar to a compact flash card but can be set to read-only.
I was able to find a 1GB SD/Flash card for $20.00 recently.. eventually you'll be able to find them for $2.50 and no one will even think about CD-ROMS anymore. People are so stuck into technology and they can't see the future - I have always hated CD-Roms and DVD's, and EASY CD CREATOR, and NERO, and all that crap. So many other people just LOVE them to death. Pargent, they.
