One can actually write nice C plus plus if one tries, and not make it a massive pile of shit. One example seems to be Scite/Scintilla, although further inspection needs a looking: From initial lookings, it appears to actually make some good use of basic C++ without turning it into a gigantic mind game.
Hopefully more examples will be found of simplicity in C plus plus. I don't have much time to look, but when I do find gracious code, I make a note of it, time permitting.
