An important scientist gets abducted by aliens, but not for harmful purposes.
The aliens have predicted that the scientist will die, as he has an untreated illness that he is unaware of.
The aliens abduct the man to perform medical treatment on him, and send him back. In order to help him not become scared about the event, they erase his memory but warn him that vague memories of the event and meeting with the aliens may come back to him, and that people on earth will not believe him if he tells humans he was abducted by aliens.
The aliens, when they abduct the man, try to make him as comfortable as possible to not scare him. They ensure him that he would have died, if the aliens did not interfere and perform medical treatment.
They even explain to him, in great technical detail, the exact illness and the exact treatment of it, scientifically. As he is a scientist, he understands some of the science they explain to him, so he starts to trust them at this point.
