~ constant restarts required just like windows 98
With today's software you have constant patches and updates being applied. The amount of updates and patches ensures that you will have to restart your computer at some point, almost weekly, or even in some cases every second day...

Isn't this what was terrible about Windows 98, that it constantly required reboots?

When Windows 2000 and XP came out they didn't require nearly as many reboots. But now with all the gay patches being applied to software nearly daily, you pretty much have to reboot your machine as much as Windows 98, if not more.

Even unix systems are not immune to patches and updates on all the ports software, but maybe it is a bit better. I do recall the need to reboot a unix machine every time the network card was downed or upped a few years back (not linux).

Rebooting the machine is extremely obnoxious because it removes all your stored state, all your web browser windows and text editors and IDE's that you have memorized what is open. Then when you reboot, you have to waste your brain on reopening all this shit. What year is this? Dos days? Is this shit any better than dos based win 98? Anti virus programs require reboots constantly.

Unix is only slightly better at this stuff... some people brag about their web servers being on for an entire year without a reboot, but what about your desktop?
