A young man lives with his girlfriend in the city and they are paying off their mortgage on their half a million dollar house, as in the city even a aesthetically displeasing boring almost run down house costs that much these days. It seems like climbing Mount Everest to try and fight this uphill battle. The girlfriend doesn't like her job in the city much, but they are making enough money to pay all their bills and live semi-comfortably, but not happily.
The man has his own business he runs from home and his happy with his business, but really not happy having to look at a 550,000 mortgage balance which will take him and his girlfriend (or young wife) eons to pay off.
One day the man decides to go on a realtor site and look for places to live, not serious but just to be a dreamer and fantasise about what could be. He finds a town where houses cost only $50,000-$100,000 for a small home and is near a ski resort in the mountains. Why is he living in the city with a $550,000 mortgage balance when he could literally move away tomorrow, and be mortgage free, with a ski resort in the mountains only 30 miles away?
So instead of his little real estate website surfing fantasy just being a dream, he turns it into a reality and convinces his girlfriend to pack her bags up and leave and buy a house in the town near the ski resort. He always wanted to return back to skiing, as he was never close enough to the mountains to go very often but loved it when he did go when he was a child and in his teen years.
His business is not tied to the place he lives (mail order business or software shareware seller, that can be done anywhere) but his girlfriend is tied to her job in the city. So he is ready to leave, but is she?
Not only is there one ski resort within 30 miles of this town but there is another one in another province (or state) just a bit further away.
He can easily sustain himself on his business income considering he will not have any mortgage, as his new house will only be $50K-100K which he has the partially paid funds from his city house to easily pay this new house off in full. Whether the girl wants to work or not in the new town is up to her, or she can help him with his business.
