~ capitalism as a mental illness
There are many great things about the capitalistic process... such as innovation and invention.

But sometimes a good business man becomes somewhat mentally ill.

A true die hard capitalist wakes up in the morning and his first thought is "how can I reduce my expense more to be more efficient" instead of say something more sensible such as "should I have eggs for breakfast, or cereal with milk?"

i.e. a capitalist is "premature optimization". A good business man spends all his waking hours optimizing all areas of his business, mostly cutting back on all expenses possible and lowering production costs.

It doesn't just apply to the business man's business, it also applies to him getting a lower mortgage rate on his personal house, cutting $5000 off on his next vehicle purchase..

Basically the capitalist becomes a bit of an OCD (obsessive compulsive) freak constantly optimizing every bloody transaction in his entire life.

If he makes enough money, the personal transactions start to have less importance over time, such as going out to a restaraunt and throwing away $50.00 on a meal or even $150 on a bottle of wine... and $150 wine is probably cheap wine for many. And that's where things get rough: people end up spending so much, to try and escape their previous mental illness during startup phases of saving and cutting all costs possible....

So then, to escape the capitalist's mental illness issue of cutting costs he starts just ignoring his expenses and what happens? He buys drugs, expensive wine, hookers, and soon enough he's broke because he wasn't watching his expenses. Something like Elton John going broke or Theo Flurry of the Calgary Flames going broke even though he was a millionaire. Going broke even though you have multi million dollar bank account? yes it happens in this mentally ill fubar society.

Note: this article is not promoting socialism or anything like that, but rather addressing the OCD issues of capitalism.. I'm not saying the alternative solutions, such as a big government stepping in and regulating every part of our lives, is going to stop this mentally ill society we live in. In fact capitalism may be one of the best systems for innovation (and intellectual property theft too). i.e. I'm not saying the grass is greener on the other side, but I'm also not saying it isn't shit brown here.
