I hated olive oil as a child. When I would taste it, I'd detect that yuckiness about it.
Then I started taking spoonfuls of it each day to boost my calories since sometimes I forget to eat meals while programming or writing long verbose run-on sentences on PasWiki.
As I took more and more spoonfuls over the years, I started to like Olive oil and look forward to my spoonful.
Now I can have olive oil on potato bits (a greek idea actually) and put it on almost anything. I can put it on Fish and yes even popcorn (instead of butter). Again, it is an acquired taste. If you get to the point where you can look forward to putting olive oil on your popcorn.. then you definitely have acquired a taste for it! Not many people can eat popcorn with olive oil on it.. but you will be able to if you develop a craving for olive oil!
Only problem with olive oil is that it is a bit expensive.. but I'm not so sure that I trust Canola/sunflower oil since they are processed with heat and/or hydrogenation.
Olive oil has Omega 9 oils in it whereas typical oils are loaded with Omega 6.
Olive oil can also give people sore throats when it touches inside of the mouth. From what I studied, this is okay. Olive oil has a natural antihistamine/steroid property in it that numbs/tingles the nerves. This for some reason causes some people to have sore throats while swallowing olive oil. I thought I was allergic to olive oil, but it appears that this is not the case.
If you hate the flavor of olive oil.. try acquiring a taste for it! It takes time.
